Speaker opinions, please

I'm working on putting together a new stereo system for my 1993 300E and am having trouble deciding between two approaches for the front speakers.

MB Quart makes a 6.5-inch woofer with a crossover; you then run the lead from the crossover to the speaker of your choice. One option I'm considering is using these to replace the door speakers and then using replacement speakers in the dash (either Rainbows or 4-inch Infinitys).

The other option I'm thinking of is getting a pair of 6.5-inch component speakers and putting the drivers in the doors and the tweeters in the stock dash location.

Any thoughts on which of these would work better? Thanks.

-Mike

In my car I have componenets int he front with the tweers in the dash. to me sounds great. I will be moving the tweeters to the a pillers sooner than later, and putting a set of 4" or 5.25" in the dash location. 5.25" is too big, so I plan on figuring out a way to mount them from underneath.

Thumbs up

Stock door location is poor to me as it's firing at the back of the seat and having the tweeter that far away into the dash I don't like too much either.

I'd just dump the stock door location for much of any use, unless you plan to bandpass crossover a midbass speaker there to get some decent sound and play only certain sound levels. Maybe from 80-200Hz where your dash speakers are cut.

Is it worth that much trouble? Not really when you could just get a nice subwoofer to do all that work and sound better.

IMO - I don't like Infinity Kappas at all. They're FAR too shrill at high volumes. Quarts are a good choice, Diamond Hex, JL XRs, hrm... Focals, CDT. I've never listened to the Rainbow but I've heard great things not to mention they're a DROP-IN fit for the W124...

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'm leaning toward going with the MB Quart woofers and putting full-range speakers in the dash and rear deck.

Here's the Quarts I'm looking at:

Do you have or plan to install an external amplifier at the same time as these new speakers go in?

I'm leaning toward it. I have a four-channel Alpine that came out of another car that I'm seriously considering using. I'm thinking about using the Alpine to drive the front speakers and running the rear speakers off the deck power. This would allow me to bridge the remaining two channels of the Alpine if I ever add a subwoofer.
