The other day when was replacing instrument cluster bulbs and had the dashboard corner speaker grill open, I noticed that there was no speaker in there but there was a factory-looking foam insert beneath the grill covering the opening. I looked around inside and found the wire and connector for a speaker. The left side is the same.
I bought the car used and there was no record of anything audio related (in fact, the radio manual is not there either) Since then, I have installed the Alpine CD changer. I don't know why I never caught this one before, I guess I wasn't paying attention. But the system consists of the Bose Amp, the tuner, and the head unit. There are 11 speakers installed and now the two possible's. So, what can I do? Will it hurt things to add two more speakers...which speakers/brand or original? Tweeters would be great right there. Thanks for the help, Chris |

I did a voltage test on the wires at where the speaker should be plugged in, with the sound on there is voltage, so the wires are live. Now I need to know what speakers to get. any suggestions?

My thinking would be if you have the bose system, you would have to get the bose speakers.
I'm not sure on this though, I'm just answering based on what I think and not what I actually know. hehe Alon

There are no speakers in those locations. They are used for the factory phone speaker if you have it. If not, it is prewired. You have an 11 speaker system, the center speaker behind the rear view mirror, the 4 in the front doors, two in the back doors, and 4 across the back deck. I would think that in the process of a stereo upgrade, the dash location is a great spot for a set of tweeters, but I don't think that the wiring there runs from the stereo system, but don't quote me on that.
Used to have a 1993 500SEL Good luck. |

wow, this is new info, thanks.
As it is now, I have a Nokia 6100 series phone holder bolted to the right of the console at the level of the radio. The microphone is the from the Nokia kit and it is attached to the left of the driver's sun visor. The sound for the phone comes from a Nokia speaker that is mounted deep under the dash above the passenger's feet. Antenna on the rear window. This reminds me of some curiousities I had before of how the phone is wired and where the Nokia controller box is placed. With the way MB's are about the stock sound systems, tweeters in there would mean lots of custom work and maybe no-work. How are the factory installed phones installed and where are the phones placed? Thanks for this news. Chris |

The handset goes in your armrest, the dial pad and screen itself go in the compartment above your center A/C vents. I'll take some pics of mine if you want, of course it isn't activated.
