W140 Antenna Removal
Can anyone tell me how to remove the antenna motor from my 97' S320. The mast cable broke away from the mast and is stuck inside the antenna motor unit. I need to remove the motor so I can open it up and get the old mast cable out before I can install a new mast. I have removed the trunk liner in the left side and can see the antenna motor, but it is behind another unit (which I think is the radio control). I need to know all of what needs to be removed to get to the antenna motor without needlessly removing or damaging anything.
Any help would be appreciated.

Wow, must be an 8 year life cycle on these things. Mine did the same thing. I got into the liner and saw the motor, but I talked to my tech and he says no need, all you do is loosen the bolt on the rear quarter and pull out the antenna. The cable is part of the mast, so you replace the mast itself. I haven't attempted it yet. This is also a C class, but likely the same setup.

Normally that would work, but the cable broke away from my mast and is inside the antenna motor. I have changed masts on other MB's and if the cable is attached it is a 15 minute job. My problem is that I now need to get into the motor to get the old cable out.
I am still looking for some help on that one.

I think MB only used the antenna for cellular around 96 and up. I think that is the radio amp.

I had the exact same problem.... Once you remove the trunk liner cover you will see the motor and mounting bolts (two i believe).
With motor removed, you should be able to manually push the old mask cable out, if not you might have to have someone turn the radio on while you guide the cable out.. Good luck.. |

Got the antenna mast out
Well I tackled this over the weekend and successfully got the mast out of the antenna motor. I had to remove the trunk liner on the drivers side, then remove what I think is the radio control unit, then a large metal bracket which was covering the antenna motor and had to be removed. with all of that out of the way, I was able to remove the antenna motor from it's mounting and disassemble it to get the broken mast out.
Took about an hour all together, not a bad job and the new antenna works fine. Thanks to all for the help.
