problems with new stereo in w202

Just connected Alpine CDA-9851 to 1999 C280 (Bose) using VW wire harness and now radio works great, but no sound when I'm trying to play CDs. What could be wrong ?

Thanks

the remote turn on lead you have is the wrong one...

You have the one for the antenna hooked up to the one that supplies the amp.

Many alpines do this... when the radio is on, the antenna remote wire supplies power to the antenna, but when on cd or a source other thant he radio, that same wire cuts power to the antenna and the antenna goes down. If you have this wire hooked up to the bose amplifier, you will have sound on radio, but not on cd. there should be another blue or blue/white wire on the alpine harness. hook the remote wire for the bose amp to that, and use the other one for the power antenna. Or you may just have them backwards, so swap them and it should work.

That should solve it.

I had this problem with my 95 and the Sony deck I installed (and then subsequently took out) and the antenna issue was my problem. However, I don't see how this is a problem in a 99 considering there is no power antenna on a 99 C 280.

the alpine should have 2 remote turn on leads one for the power antenna, one for an amplifier.

So if you have the one for the antenna hooked up to the amplifier's turn on lead, guess what, no sound on a cd.

Oh ok I misunderstood. Wrong wire to amp turn on, got it. Cool.

Did as you described and everything seems to be working perfectly now.
Thanks :sun_smile

not a problem. I have run intot his myself.

I installed a radio in a customers car and the remote leads werent labeled, so everything was fine until the customer tried a cd, then no sound and I was like uh oh... swapped the wires and all was well.

Thats how I knew it was your problem.

Alpine and some other brands on some of their models do this. why have the antenna up if you arent listening to the radio...
