Wondering if it is possible to add an auto starting system to my 1994 S500. A certain friend of mine insists that it is impossible unless done by the dealer due to the complexity of the 140's electrical system. Can anyone give me better news? It SEEMS that it would be simple, it's not the 97+ electronic key...email responses would be appreciated too. Thanks!!

I did respond to this already int he tech section, but I thought I'd kind of summarize it all up here.

i would think it is possible. To do a remote start system you have to be able to have it turn on the fuel pump and kick in the starter. Thats the basics.

Now MB Might have an Anti Theft system where the car cannot be hooked up as such. I would call this hotwiring protection.

Essentially i think remote starters are basically hotwiring the car.

i would suggest you take the car to a reputable shop that does alarms and high end multimedia systems, and se what they tell you. If they have done it on a benz like yours before then I would say that they could do the job. if they have not done it, don't let them use your car to learn how.

remote Starter

Flipsyde

My tech diagrams and info shows that it should be a very straightforward job for someone who has done remote starters before.
All you need to do is to have access to the ignition harness for all the connections.
A couple of underhood connections are required and then the door locks which incidently arms and disarms the factory alarm should you have one.

all in all no more difficult than anyother model.
