AUX Port Access Question

Anyone out there know how to connect to the AUX port on a 2005 E320 Wagon?
The dealer so far has told me that it connects with a fiber optics connector and that he will gladly connect it for $695.

My understanding was that the AUX port accepts audio. What has that got to do with fiber optic cables? Seems like there should be a miniature stereo audio cable that can be connected to the back of the radio. How do I get to the back of the radio? What connector type is required? Is it accessible through the glove box?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Fran

does the car already have an aux input in the glove box?

I have seen it on some e classes as well as S class, CL And SL class cars. there was a mini stereo port in the glove box already and you had to go to the SVC menu to activate it.

Do you have the command system?

I did work on a G500 that had the option on the command system but did not have the port in the glove box or hooked up. I had to pull the radio and wire it in myself. not too hard, but you have to get it right otherwise you get a lot of engine noise.

Talk to scott at La Jolla Audio he frequents the site and knows mb radios in and out.

AUX Port Access Information

I have the AUX port connected now and thought I'd post the info in case anyone else is trying to do the same thing.

The AUX port connector in the 2005 E320 Wagon is located in the glove box. Don't think you can find it with a casual look. It is mounted at the top of the glove box and is not visible when seated in the driver's seat.

Since both the Satellite Receiver and the AUX port are female connectors, an adapter is required. The adapter that I bought is Radio Shack part number 42-2497. It is a one foot cable with a male 1/8 inch stereo miniplug on each end.

In my car that cable is too short. I also bought a Radio Shack audio extension cord that matches the 1/8 inch miniplug.

There is no programming or computer configuration required. It plays as soon as you connect it.

The sound is so much better than the sound acheived using the built-in FM transmitter in the Satellite Receiver. I really recommend using this port.

so you already had the aux port and the dealer wanted to charge you $695 for it when it was already there?

Damn them....

Glad you found it.

Does it still activate through the svc menu?
