Question 124 front speakers

i have an 87 300 e and i cant for the life of me figure out how to get the front speakers out... ive gotten the grill off and even noticed a small bolt that doesnt seem to do anything. since i cant access it from under the dash or the hood im hoping i dont have to pull the whole dash out. any help would be much appreciated

Use a flat blade screwdriver and pry it up, they use metal clips below the
edge of the speaker to hold the speakers down without screws..

W124 front speaker clips

Place a towel between the screwdriver/clip operation and the front windshield
to protect your windshield glass!

Thumbs up much thanks

well after a bit of muscle and cursing i got them out with no problems but a bruised knuckle and a lost screw. i noticed when comparing them to the rear speakers that i took out a while back that they are much closer to the same size then i thought. does anyone happen to know what the sizes are for factory 87' 124 speakers? they dont look like the usual sizes that i see. also since i plan to put these perfectly good speakers in my girlfriends 79 300D. any advice on how much of a pain this would be would also save me a bruised knucle or two.

whoops

well nevermind about the sizes at least. thanks to JCE for the link to a diy page for speakers in my car. it goes into great detail for removal process and what not. the sizes are wierd as i assumed, 5" 1/8 for the rear and 4" 5/8 or so for the front. though ill be looking for 123 swap info, any help i could get here would be nice.

The sizes aren't weird, they're metric!
