Speakers???

I have a 2002 E-class w/the Bose 8-Speaker Premium Sound system. Where are the speakers?

I can spot the 2 in the front doors, the 2 in the rear doors and the 2 on the deck lid behind the rear seats.

That makes 6. Where are the other 2???

no sound from the dash - I can see the slots that look like speakers may be hiding behind there though.

i also have little speaker impressions in the A-Pillar (the section of the door frame inside from the side-view mirrors). Is that where they put tweeters?
That would make sense, but I don't hear anything coming from there either!!!

I listened closely and switched Fader and Balance levels to each corner of the car and still can't hear nuthin'!!!

It's under warranty so I guess I'll go check it out at the dealer.

This is quite late, and you've probably resolved this by now, however:

I have a '96 W210 which is probably completely different, however it sounds exactly as you describe, and is billed as an "8 speaker" system by MB.

There are eight elements in six locations. The lower speakers on the front doors are two-way speakers (4 elements). The rear doors each contain a one-way speaker, and there are two more one-way speakers in the rear deck.

The speakers in the dashboard are not used by the Bose audio system. I'm not sure that they're used by the standard system either, but rather the telephone option. I think they're also used for alerts which are also displayed on the multifunction indicator panel (aka odometer).

The two locations that appear perfect for tweeters are used for the standard system only. No speakers are installed there with the Bose system, although the wires are present inside the door.

Thats weird why the Bose package does not locate the tweeters in the sail panels of the doors....thats the best imaging and sound for highs!

Why is this? Nothing is worse than highs coming from the floor.

no tweeters in the a-pillar?

I think I will just go out and install tweeters there. It's really the perfect place for them!!!

IMHO.....One of the problems with speakers in the A-Pillars is that they are so far away from the woofers the system will suffer from a phase coherance problem..I always found that tweeters sounded better if they were less than a foot from the woofers they are coupled with electrically....Personally in my car I have the tweeters surface mounted on the kick panels aimed at the center of the car......

Whats phase coherance problem?

My W203 C-class has the tweeters in the panel near the window and it seems to sound fine and clear with good imaging.
