Are the rear deck speakers in a 124, 5.25 inch in size? How about the middle driver/woofer? (I yanked them awhile ago to let sub sound to enter cabin so I can't measure them) My whole soundstage is up front in the dash and doors but I'm going to install rears and disconnect one set up front to maintain the 4 speaker system.
If anyone can recommend some good full range speakers that fit in the rear with little to no modification necessary please let me know your experiences. Thanks!

As far as the speakers not sounding. it is possible that one went out before the other, and you just did not notice it.
I had a rear tweeter out in my setup and never even realized it was out until I was doing some work to the car and was in the back seat with the stereo on... Of course all my stuff is aftermarket not factory.

That is the best schematic I have found for this system. I have the same system and your right... none of the systems in the huge pdf file match our car. (I have a 92 300E 4 matic).. This made everything make a lot more sense for me. =) This says that the two amps in the back right side are for the dash speakers and the rear speakers. There is a 3rd amp. =) .. The door speakers are actually driven by an amp that is built into the tuner module in the trunk on the otherside of the metal thing that the amps are bolted too. If you look on that module there is a coax in.. (it is a tuner).. and there is line out speaker wires. =) This output is amplified I belive not line level.. that is what the schematic says... but it makes a pass-through the harness of the other 2 amplifiers. This alows you to take the blk/grn and blk wire... (the thicker black wire, not the thinner) on the harness and tie in your own speaker wire to run to an aftermarket deck if you go that route. Running speaker wire to the deck was the only thing I could come up with. I bought the car and the previous owner had no rear speakers hooked up and I had to figure it all out. The signal from the factory head unit to the back of the car where the factory amps are.... is line level signal wire... very very thin. I wasn't comfortable using those same wires to push amplified deck power through (he installed an aftermarket deck). So I had to run my own... and now my system, I can only imagine, is as good as it could be with 13 year old speakers. Last edited by opnotic; 02-13-2006 at 10:53 PM. |
