What is the fully extended length of the antenna? I'm not sure mine is fully extending...

If it's not, try hitting it with some penetrant to loosen it up or perhaps some silicone spray.

The one on my SDL is almost fully extended.

I've been reasonably successful with the following:

1) Clean it thoroughly with acetone.

2) Dribble some graphite liquid onto the top section and allow it to run into the joint and down to the next section........and finally down to the base.

3) Operate the antenna several times.

4) Wipe excess off fender.

The antenna's appear to be made to typical precision German tolerances and won't tolerate much dirt..........or...........ice.

Obviously you lucky Southern folks have never experienced the joys of Freezing Rain.
The antenna on my SDL had a huge coating of ice on it last winter during a freezing rain storm and was almost an inch in diameter. When I stopped and turned off the engine the mast retracted (to my amazement) leaving an 'ice pole' that broke off as the mast went down.
