94 s500 Radio Antenna Won't Go Up

Just recently I noticed my radio reception became very poor. Then I realized that the power antenna was no longer coming up and when I turned the radio on. I do not even hear the motor trying to make it rise if someone powers the radio on and I am standing by the antenna itself. Do you think I need a new motor, is there any way that I could maybe pull it out just a little with a plier to get normal reception? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Depending on how handy you are you could pull back the trunk liner and attach a direct electrical source to the hot wire to the antenna motor.

If it were mine, I would first check the fuses. I am unsure which style your car has, but if they are the small tubular ones that can be turned, try turning them. This style fuse is known for getting corrosion between the contact ends.

Keep us posted,

Haasman

Check out MenU#14 on my page for connections for the 'trigger' voltage.

I checked the fuses in the auxillary box, located rear right of the trunk and all the fuses are in tact. I gently tried to pull the antenna out with a plier but there was resistance from the cable, so I'm assuming that is still in tact. Does this help narrow the diagnosis, blown motor, lack of power..

It's probably a busted 'plastic' gear inside. . . common failure. If you take it apart, you may be able to repair it.

I looked into the antenna, opened it up. The antenna goes up and down when I powered it independently. I checked the relay with a volt meter and no current is going through. ANyone know where and how much I can get the relay for?

Good job; repairing the antenna motor can be trying.

There s/b a part number on the relay???? Check here and other MB parts suppliers.

Can't Find Relay Seperately

I contacted a few dealers and they said I cannot purchase the relay seperately. Anyone ever bought just a relay or know where I can get one for the antenna?

I think some models have a switch on the dash board. Is yours turned off?
