What about these for custom door subs?

What do you all have to say about these speakers for in door subs for a 126? Mine didn't come with subs from the factory. I'm not out for a thumpin street shaker, just to fill out the bass in the car.

One in the rear of each front door maybe?

have fun

have fun trying to mount those puppies in your door. i doubt youll have room in the door for them to fit. the depth of those are probably pretty dang deep. they may end up in the way of your windows coming down all the way. youd probably also have to cut some of your sheet metal in the door. i just made some custom kick panels for my 123 ill try and get pics up soon. youd also want to hook an amp up to those

Amp is no problem, I have a nice two channel I'll use. Also, they supposedly are only 5.3 inches deep, which ought to fit in the door and not cause trouble (after all the map pocket is 2.75 inches alone, only need another 2.5 inches of door space.)

Does anybody know where I can get speaker grills for outside of map pocket? or should I mount the speaker mostly in door and leave the map pocket in tact in front of it as a sort of "sound guide" ?

Also, I am planning on putting these in the rear portion of the door.

Thumbs up Cool and curious

I am wondering how your install of the rear speakers came out. I thought about putting some speakers back there in my 88' 300se. not using the grills and just cutting out the backing of the panel leaving the leather... about to make that attemp soon... wanting to put two in the back door and the two in the rear on a 400 amp system.. leaving the two in the front door and front window connected to the head unit itself... How did yours turn out?

hi
yeah i have try that and there was no space for it you can mount them if you put spacer but that don't look good,

planet audio and directed make midbass drivers and the magnet is in front of the speaker cone and deep there is only 1.5''

My rear speakers?

My rear's came out fine, other than they have like ZERO bass response, it's all in the trunk!

I am going to try and seal them off from the trunk with some cut-to-fit wood mounts that are sealed because I think it is lack of sealing around the speakers that is causing bad bass response.......They were good in the wood boxes I had them in when I was using for PA speakers..

Then, the hat shelf goes over the top of them and you can't even tell that they're there.......Looks like stock.....

I try and find my other thread and post pics to that If I haven't already.....

if your going with TB speakers in the doors, theese ones only need 3" of mounting depth

Went to your link. Not for sure what kind of coax you are using there, but I doubt if you will get a tremendous amount of midbass from those, let alone bass. Those will probably do there best at 200hz and up as they are mounted there, meaning not alot of output in the low end of it.

If possible, try to find a way to get them in some sort of enclosure. That will help with the bottom end, of course, a dedicated driver will give you MUCH better response over a coax if you are wanting more low end. I would personally suggest Elemental Design EU700. They are a 6.5" midbass driver that can be used for sub duty. If I remember correctly, they will do IB, but with only maybe 75watts or so. For $50 a piece, you will be hard pressed to find a comparable package. And they come in either dual 2 or dual 4 ohm configurations, so you have tons of flexibility when wiring them.

More ideas....

I now have in my possession the later style 126 door panels with the subwoofer cut-outs/holes in them.... I have a couple of ideas:

two of these in each door wired in parrallel in a sealed baffle in the door.... http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=264-826

Or maybe one of these in each door, should be easy with 3-1/8 inch mounting depth.... http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=264-831

Or, if I can fit em, one of these in each door, 3-5/8 inch mounting depth.....
http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=264-832

Does anyone have the ability to plug the Thiele-Small numbers on those drivers to see if they'd work acceptably in a VERY small sealed baffle or in an infinite baffle setup (I.e. speaker sealed against surface of door, with door itself as an enclosure......)
