Factory Radio Replacement Question/Advise?

I have a 1998 E320 MB and the radio works but the knob to control the volume is acting up, and I don't really want to hassle with getting repaired and I am not smart enough to fix it myself, so I need advise and help on getting a replacement for the radio if I should take it out. I have a cd changer in the trunk as well, so I need that to work with the new/used radio I buy, I wanted to know if I can replace the one I have now with a newer year E320 radio in my car with out having to modify anything? I would like to go to the 2001 and up radio style if all possible? Does anyone know if I can do this and just remove my old and hook up the newer style with no problems as long as I have the radio codes etc... Any advise will be great! If you know for sure what model or ??? I can get that would be great as well! Any one selling there old one?

I don't know anything about model year 2003 and newer W211 cars, but 1998-2002 W210s all use fiber optic connections between the head unit and the cd changer / cell phone, so I'd guess any radio from a '98-'02 E class would work.

I have no experience with any of these links - but a simple google search on "Mercedes Radio Repair" yields many links, including this one: http://www.radiomanrepair.com/

i beleive you should have the audio 10 HU. If so, it is very simple to replace with another factory audio 10. It is plug and play and all u need is the radio remval tools.

You can install a newer radio - from a '99 or newer car - but the changer you have won't work with it. The new radio will be fiber optic type. MB used FO for the radio-to-changer link/interface.

Radio Problem

Hi kensingtongals,
The problem with the volume control is a common problem and is repaired at a very reasonable price. Much cheaper than replacing the whole radio or worse yet the whole system. Please contact me directly and I will help you in solving this problem. Thank you for using Mercedes Shop Forum.
