1992 W124 Tuner Replace/Repair

Howdy folks,
The OEM radio in my wife's 1992 300E is unable to grab a signal despite replacing the Hirschmann power antenna with a new aftermarket fixed antenna which I though would solve the problem. Can anyone give me instructions on the removal of the tuner unit in the trunk and a source for repair/replacement of same? Do you think that is actually the problem or could it be the head unit in the dash? All I get is static and a real faint signal no matter what frequency the head unit display shows.
Thanks in advance for any help.

1992 300E OEM Becker 1432 Tuner and Head unit

Just in case anybody else has this problem I would like to help you out. I have remedied the problem on my own.
For those who don't know it, the head unit in the cockpit is only a controller for the radio. It works in conjunction with the 2 amps and Tuner unit in the trunk which are located on the right side, tucked up next to the trunk door strut. The two amplifiers are mounted adjacent to each other and the Tuner unit is mounted outboard of those, close to the wheel well. It is removed easily by loosening one bolt and then sliding the Tuner unit aft and out of the bracket.
Be careful here....do not remove any of the plug wiring yet.
Take your replacement unit in hand and replace all wires and plugs one by one so as not to get confused.
Then simply re-insert the Tuner unit back into the bracket, slide it forward and replace the bolt/screw.
Replacement of this Tuner unit (Becker 1432) put me back in business. I bought it on Ebay for $85 bucks. My only problem with this used unit is that it never powers down and will drain the battery if the car is not driven in 2 or 3 days. I must have goofed up the reattachment of all the wiring plugs somehow. Either that, or the used unit is screwed up. Anyways, the Tuner unit was the culprit and it also was responsible for NOT operating the power antenna as well. Which really ticks me off because I tore that Hirschmann apart and reassembled it a dozen times and finally capitulated and hooked up an ugly rubber Euro style antenna which works and looks like scheisse.

I'm at the point where I'm ready to bite the bullet. Toss the whole OEM concept out the door and go with a reinstall of a good Alpine unit, despite the forseen hassels of rewiring, etc.

Because after all, we've got to have our tunes.

Good luck,
I hope this helped somebody and my bloody knuckles were not for naught.
Heinrich
