Universal CD Changer?

Has anyone tried a universal CD changer? They come with a FM modulator to play through an unused portion of the FM band. The advantage is you don't change the head unit and don't need CD controls on the head unit. A SONY 10 CD changer with wireless remote is $150-200.

My head unit is an Alpine 7138 circa 1990. It works and has decent AM/FM cassette sound, and does not look too out of place in a 76SLC.

I'm wondering if the sound is degraded going through the FM, as opposed to hard wiring the CD changer into the head unit. If that is the case, does anyone have another suggestion?

Thanks

I just bought one yesterday for my 300CE. I have had one before on another car and it worked perfectly.

Where do you hook up the power supply to..? A hot wire in the trunk?

I hadn't gotten far enough to figure out where I'd hook it up. My battery is in the trunk, but I was thinking of going through an underutilized fuse in the fuse panel, if I could find one. I suppose if all else fails I could read the suggestions in the package.

What did you do for power?

BTW, which unit did you get?
Thanks
Al

I got a JVC 1100 rf 12 cd changer. I haven't hooked it up yet. I need some advice on what electrical source to use. I would prefer not pulling the radio.
