It looks better in person. The factory carpet cover scuffed up my paint. I will touch it up later.

You did an amazing job with that. It would be difficult to give up the spare wheel but I'll have to think about it now.

If you read through some of the earlier posts in this thread (I'm guessing around page 2), you will see some pics of my setup. I put the sub in the spare wheel well - but I only use 1 - and therefore didn't have to give up my spare tire. It's still there if ever needed.

Noise level

Hey, B, what's the noise level in your car like now compared to before you started with the accoustic insulation? It seems it would be almost like riding inside a pillow when the stereo is off. MB's always sounded very solid to me anyhow. Like when you shut the door and hear that solid (as opposed to hollow clang) "clunk."

Your comments have made me start thinking about redoing the audio in my ride. Thanks for all the information and photographs. Great job!

I am looking at noise insulation my car, but I have a few questions. Did you guys put the accoustic dampener under the flooring?? I know that you did the rear shelf, behind the seats, door panels, etc., but would it be cost effective to pull out the interior and dynamat underneath everything?

I did put some dynamat (extreme, and also Cascade) under the floor carpeting. I didn't do it all though - I didn't bother taking out the front seats.

I do think the car is even quieter now. I can still hear the engine (thankfully - since I like hearing it), but overall the noise level has been lowered.

Also, where the transmission runs between the seats - I put dynamat there (where your legs might rub up against it in the front footwells), and it's cooler to the touch. It used to get warm there - and now it's nice and cool.

I think it was a worthwhile project. It's a lot of work though...
