Pioneer CD Unit Fouling My Decker
I hope there's a Pioneer officiado, here, who can help me. I disconnected a Pioneer CD unit that didn't work and lost power to the Becker 754 and antenna in my '87, 560 SL. I'm thinking that the Pioneer circuit wiring must somehow complete the power source for the radio. Fuses are okay or look okay. I would rehook the CD unit but I want to remove it and restore normal Becker operation. If you have any idea what's going on, please give me your thoughts.

I think that your problem may lie somewhere in the switched power wire. I would pull the radio, and see if any wires were spliced into, and if those wires do infact lead to the CD changer location.

Thanks. I'm going to try to trace the wires from the changer and the "hideaway" unit to the radio which will not be easy. There are some spliced wires behind the radio but I haven't be able to figure out whether they are associated with the CD changer. They might be speaker wires. A set of add-on speakers are installed in the back. The radio has used those speakers rather than the dash speakers which were disconnected. What puzzles me is that the radio was working (except AM) before I actually disconnected the CD unit. While I was preparing to disconnect the CD unit, I turned the radio on and that's when I discovered there was no power. As far as I know, I had not unplugged anything at that point though I had pulled the radio and then replaced it. I've checked all the plug-ins on the back of the radio and all seem to be secure. I may end up going to an installation service (e.g., Circuit City) to untangle this thing. Unfortunately, I live in the boonies and services are not convenient.

Update on Becker Problem
I got it fixed for $25. I first called Circuit City (about one hour away). They said $50 and they would get my Becker back to normal operation but I found a electronics guy about 30 minutes away out in the boonies as I am. He dug in to the mass of wires cut, clipped and removed the CD changer stuff, then ran a new constant 12V wire to the fuse panel and that did it. He also pulled from deep in the mass of wires behind the dash the original antenna cable which had been replaced by the CD changer/fm setup. Now I have AM and FM. on my original Becker.
