Amp in MB 300SL -91

I wonder if there is, as standard, a Built-in-Amplifier in 300 SL. When I changed the stereo I found a RCA-cable inside the panel (Light-purple-coloured). Looked pretty "fabric-made". My next question is if anyone knows an easy way to get inside the panel to follow up the cables, , Without demounting the whole dashboard. Any suggestions of sound-improvement in the W129 is welcome.
