Best speakers???

What are the best speakers to use for a w124? (quality-wise)

Many argue that MB Quart is the best.

Personally, I use Infinity Component Speakers. I like their crisp and clean highs. Plus, I got mine on sale for a quarter of what the MB quart components were.

If I didnt get my infinitys on discount, I would have probibally gotten a set of MB quarts for the front and back. But that is just me though.

I haven't really heard much about MB Quart, although it would be nice to keep the speakers German...

Quarts are nice, but they have an entry line that's mkay. I had a set of Kappas in my Z71 and their highs are too shrill for me when the sound is louder...

Best advice? Go to a nice hi-fi shop with TONS of variety. Listen to all sorts of brands with your music, undisturbed. Then you can see what you like. Also, make sure to have the same brand and series of speakers installed so the sound is the same vocally. Just an FYI, shops usually have stuff setup on external amplifiers (which I have in almost everything) so the sound is going to be a lot cleaner than it would be off a headunit.

I have Polks in one vehicle, JLs in another, Blaupunkts in another, Kenwoods in another, and finally Bostons! All sound a bit different from each other. The Blaus and Kenwoods are decent for the cash I got them for... ~$10 for the pair each (gotta love boneyards :D ). JLs I have their high end XRs, I really like their sound good and clear all over without a high or low spot. Polks are some old DXs in the F150... I like Polks silk tweeter as it's smoother with high notes. I have them rockin at 150w RMS each... The Bostons I have in the running black BMW, I forget the series but they're similar to the JLs in terms of quailty but smooth on the high end like the Polks.

Then you can get into Fujitsu-Ten (Eclipse stuff), Rainbow, Diamond, Focal, depends how much you want to drop in the end... I don't build stuff to compete, just to please my ears.

if you like ear cracking highs go for the speakers with hard materialed tweeters. Otherwise go with polk audio or alike with soft tweeters where the mids and highs are both soft and not pitched too high and screechy.

I put in MB Quarts. I'm pleased with the sound.

how much were they?

off the top of my head - around $75-80 per pair. I didn't put in their high end stuff, but it wasn't their lowest stuff either...

Morel Components

If you want the best sound go for a set of Morel component speakers. They will cost at least $600 so it really depends on how much you want to spend. You should find Morels on ebay. I find them better than Focal's
