Hirschmann Antenna Masts
This subject is by no means 'ground shaking news', but I thought I toss it into the Forum for general discussion. This is a bit of a saga - have patience
and see the confusion a simple part number can generate. When one checks parts suppliers, for example 'Fastlane', for a replacement mast, one will see two major offerings: a Hirschmann and an APA (both with the same dealer part numbers and both same prices!!) Two types are shown: Toothed and Smooth whips. The toothed is indicated as 1105mm (or 39ins.), and 915mm (or 36ins). I contacted Hirschmann and gave them the part number of the antenna embossed on the plastic cover : # 126-820-0375 They replied as follows: "Padraig, "The part number you listed cross references to a DRP-9 (direct replacement antenna) which is Hirschmann part number 921-820-401. If you need just the mast, the replacement number would be 820-902-103. To ensure this is the correct part number, the tip of the mast should have a "h/03" on it." So I ordered that part number - but armed with the information about "h/03' on the tip, I checked my old mast - it had "h/04" ! Now I'm somewhat confused and contacted Hirschmann to question the 'h/03' vs. 'h/04', who replied: "Hello Padraig, "If the antenna is the original equipment, the original antenna may have been an "04" or the telescope may have been changed in the past years. Not knowing the history of your particular vehicle, it's difficult to say why your antenna has an "04". "Our current records and the actual 126 820 03 75 parts that we have in the warehouse have the "03" telescope. Based on our records, the "03" should work. It is 3" longer than the "h/04" (making it 1105mm or 39ins) When the replacement arrived in a sealed Hirschmann plastic bag, it showed this info., on one label: "Telescope F/6000EL-MCDS. #820902103". In addition, the sealed Hirschmann plastic pack had, I suppose, a dealers' label with the number 126-827-0001 . It is toothed it BUT it indicates 915mm. Now this measurement is contrary to the Fastlane advts. (and I mention them as an example only - no criticism of Fastlane is implied or intended, as other dealers show the very same information), and also contrary to the information received from Hirschmann. The bottom line - I haven't installed it as of yet, but am wondering if the built-in 12 second timing delay of the electronics will be affected by the 3" shorter whip. If anyone is interested, I will let you know how it works, when I get around to installing it. With Kudos for your perseverance in reading this tome.
