Time to replace the speakers in my '87 300D Turbo. What size do I need for front and rear? I'm going to leave the original Becker in for the time being... tax money going to valves right now.

Go to the following links...this has been discussed many times here. The W124 speakers are a pain to replace. You will also get many opinions on what speakers to use and what to do to get bass all by using the search function at the top of the page. I used the polk replacement from crutchfield drilled into the dash for the front speakers. They lack deep bass but I have a mini subwoofer under the seat to compensate.

SPEAKER SIZES IN 87 300E?

Like I said many opinions Hope this helps.

Oh and tere is a great section in the DIY section of Mercedesshop (see link above) for speaker removal.

I just recently upgraded the stereo in my 86 w124. I assume that it is the same body style that you have?

Anyhow I have not seen this in any other thread yet but I was acutally able to put 5.25" speakers in the dash. they are the entry level mb quart coax's. This gives me much more midrange up front without going a lot of modifications to the car. Widening the hole in the dash allowed these speakers to slide right in. These were the only speakers that would fit properly, the other models/brands that I tried were too deep or the magnet in the back was too wide.

Good luck!
