Does anyone know of a drop-in replacement for the woofer in the door of the 1990 300E? My new Aiwa cd-mp3 player was a little more than my left one could take.
I've taken it out for a look and it's actually a nicely made speaker with rubber surround instead of cheap foam. The braided wire broke right at the epoxy joint on the cone (too close to repair). I would like to get a similar speaker that would fit the factory door pod (or at least would fit with only very minor modification). Contacted the mercedesshop parts store and they didn't have the Mercedes part. Checked all the major speaker manufacturers sites and no one has a size that looks like it will fit. This speaker measures 6" in diameter and the hole in the pod is 5.5". I'm no audiophile and will be leaving the factory woofer amp in place. I would feel ok paying $100-150 for a set that would fit. Anyone have any suggestions? |

I used Rockford Fosgate 6.75 (I think, check their website, it is the bigger of the two 6 and something inch drivers.) inch mid bass drivers in my 94 E420, but had to replace the wiring because in my car, these were active speakers with small amps in the pods. Sounds great, but needed a lot of power.
