All I am saying is don't use adhesive to mount anything to a gas tank.

And

That little sub is way to small for your huge trunk. Anyone with experience can see that.

Buy a XXX

You are also going to cause rear window leaks with the sub mounted that way. Trust me, I have been where you are and have advanced waaay beyond that. I have done exactly what you are doing right now except in a different type of car. I have hundreds of "Serious" installations under my belt and many more plain old JL Audio Installs as well. I and was just offering a few pointers. I know exactly how your sub is going to work and sound because I have installed them before. Your sub should be in trunk and facing rear if you are serious. Go to www.the12volt.com if you need reassurance about what I was saying. Many of my friends are also old timers like myself and spend much time on there mentoring the youngsters out there.

You don't have to take my advice, "MR. Know it all".

I just offered it

I am going to respond one more time, then I will ask that you stay out of this thread.

My subwoofer is only going to be 200 watts RMS. How in the world will that cause rear window leaks? The only thing I can think of is that you are concerned that the sub will make the rear deck sag and will bow the body panelling around the window, causing leaks. I don't believe that this sub is heavy enough to do something like that, but I guess only time will tell.

You clearly do not understand the principles of infinite baffle. Air space is not even a factor in infinite baffle installations. Again, you do not have to seal up the trunk completely. The concept of "using the trunk as an enclosure" is simply wrong. The people who say that are new to the concept of IB and say that to make themselves feel comfortable with the fact that they are so used to having a sub with an enclosure that they can't fathom seeing a sub without one. THE ONLY THING THAT YOU NEED is to seal the front of the sub off from the rear. Period.

If I closed all of the windows in the car, and opened the trunk door while the sub was operating, it would not affect the sound. The word "infinite" in the term "infinite baffle" is referring to the fact that the enclosure is infinite. THe trunk is so large that mathematically, it is close enough to "infinite" to be acceptable. But you keep referring to air space. Air space is irrelevant in this application. YOU ARE NOT USING THE TRUNK AS AN ENCLOSURE!!!

People install IB subs in their home theaters, for example. They mount the sub in the attic without any kind of enclosure around it at all. You clearly have not taken my recommendation and done your research. I am a member at the 12volt and have spent a lot of time over there. Like I said, I've done my research. You have not. And you do not even use any hard facts to support your opinions.

DO NOT POST IN THIS THREAD AGAIN. YOUR NONSENSE IS LEADING PEOPLE ASTRAY AND IS PISSING ME OFF. BEFORE YOU GET ON YOUR HIGH HORSE, DO SOME RESEARCH. YOU ARE SAYING THINGS THAT ARE SIMPLY INCORRECT.

and by the way, I recommend that you go back and take a look at your original post. Who is the "Mr know it all"? You came into my thread and apparently only wanted to criticize every aspect of my installation. You didn't say a single positive thing. And that wasn't even the insulting part of it. The insulting part is that you implied I had no idea what I was doing, and even worse, your recommendations were wrong. Learn some manners, buddy.

If I walked up to you and your wife and said "hey man, your wife is ugly, she could us a face lift", and you defended her, I would have no right to say that you were the a-hole, would I? Absolutely not, because I was the initiator and I attacked you first.

All I am doing is defending my well-thought out installation. I have done countless hours of research and spent a ton of time installing this. Have some respect and know when to keep your opinions to yourself.

If you read my original post again, you will see that I was just trying to help. You are doing such a fine job with your woodworking, and I just think that you are wasting your time with that tiny sub and all that crazy baffle crap.

If you don't like people to respond to your post, then do not post it.

My opinion is my opinion and that is that.

sorry to have to butt in on the arguement. I do not see anything wrong with the set up. it is a free air sub he is using, not a normal sub rigged up like that. i once was thinking about hooking up 3 8" kicker free-air subs in the back deck and did some research, i also seen similar installations with free air subs. I scrapped that idea because the 3 subs cost a lot for me at the time.

since when does 200 watts through a 12 inch a "tiny" sub. i have seen a lot of my friends rides with multiple subs and 2-3000 watts and what they call "sweet sounding" i call it crap, but they like it. u cannot comment on how good a bad a system turns out just because his subs are "tiny" some people listen to different music and don't need much bass. some people are into sound quality.

if anything i bet the system will turn out very nice. but if u hand it over to some other kids they will think it sucks because it doesn't shake their pants off.

i read your initial post and i think u did sound a little know it all. and it seems kinda fishy that u edited your post and then told to go back and read it later.
