Replacing Antenna Mast
My antenna stopped working suddenly on my 240d, I removed the plastic trunk liner, and the black plastic cover and quickly realised that the plastic mast lifter thing broke. I ordered a new mast online, and found instruction on the forum on how to replace it. But, where did the old mast plastic thing go? There is about 6 inches attached to the mast still, I assume there is almost 3 feet of this stuff somewhere. When the mast retracts it goes around the drive gear, then, where does it go? Thanks, Chuck

Peters right, it's on the spool. Two ways- Hard way remove complete antenna assembly from vehicle, remove the lock nut and washer and dis-assemble spool, remove platic toothed cable, re-grease rear of spool assembly, refit and adjust pretension of spool, refit antenna. Easy way! Remove black cover, have someone turn radio on or extend mast with dash switch, old remains should feed off spool through guide. If not you should be able to see the tip and grab it with a pair of long nose pliers and give it a gentle pull on the extension cycle to get it moving. If there is a problem with the spool being jammed, you will be able to see what is, or is not moving. From others and own experience, once the mast goes the innards seem to go out in sympathy a short time later. Hope that helps.

Another Easy way?
OK, i took off the black plastic cover, and still couldn't see it. I unplugged the power lead to the antennae, and removed the 4 screws and pulled the guts out of the antennae, and was able to remove the c clip and the take up spool, and got the old tail out. The place that it had broke, it would never of come out without taking it apart. It might have been easier to remove the antenae, but it wasn't that bad. I just sat in the trunk, and took the sucker apart. Thanks, for the help folks, Chuck.
