s320 bump and radio dead altho security light blinks

My 97 s320 hit a bump and the coffee splattered and the atmospheric control led went screwy then came back fine.

my radio however seems dead - the security light blinks but after disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it, nothing. The fuse is good-i switched it with the security fuse to be sure.

just for the heck of it...there may be two fuses. one on radio chassis, and the
other as part of the fuse block did you check both? how bad was coffee spill?
superficial and wiped off....or drooled into the crevices and liekly shorted out
some things?

There's a reason why the Germans would rather not put cupholders in there cars, despite the insistnece of us Americans.

But of course, that's not what you wanted to hear...

Generally, black coffee ( or diet soda ) without sugar will dry up and not cause any long term problems. But sugar makes the liquid more conductive. I can't tell you how many times I cleaned up expensive electronic gear after a hazardous spill.

radio removal tool - where can i get one? (2)

Thanks Raymond- worth a pursuit.

No-it wasn't a bad coffee spill, and hold the sugar (and my cup!) please

I want to remove the radio and change its in-line fuse.

Where can I get the removal tool? I am finding out that my 1997 S320 is a W140. I should probably know the make of the radio as well. Anyone?

becker be 1692 replacement sought

Got the radio out, took it apart, looks like some blown 2 terminal devices here and there. no coffee inside but could use a cup about now.

Could use a replacement pc-board, could use a used replacement. I've found something on ebay but the guy's paypal is down. Found this too but who knows what I'll be getting: http://www.urgpartsearch.com/link/searchresults.cfm?RequestTimeout=500

I live in MA. Could use a used radio about now. Will a Becker 1492 work? whats the dif?

Have you considered sending the unit to Becker for repair?

http://www.beckerautosound.com/

There are plenty of after market radios which will also fit and offer added features like Mp3 and satellite.

same old

I dread using an aftermarket because I like to keep it original, it has a car-speed input, phone integration and the CD player. I am unaware of an aftermarket that integrates those things but an mp3 would be welcome.

of course, sending the radio in for repair is an alternative but if I were to get the silly pc board, I'm sure I'd be ahead several $$$
