My W210 CD Changer Anomaly and Fix
While reloading some fresh CD's in my changer I noticed that even though all 6 CD drawers were full, I was getting a "NO CD6" message at my head unit when I selected button #6.
I tried switching CD's between the drawers, examining them for damage, examining the magazine for damage, inspecting the changer compartment for something amiss, all with no result. One thing I did notice through all the combinations of switching CD's was that if I deliberately tried to select a drawer numbered 1-5 which was empty, there was a delay of several seconds while the changer opened the drawer, sampled it, and displayed the "NO CD#" code. Pressing button #6 however elicited the code IMMEDIATELY upon button activation. I was just shy of disconnecting the battery and trying to "reboot" the car when I noticed that I had a cassette tape installed. It coincidentally was the Bose demonstration cassette that came with the car. I ejected it, went back to CD mode and...BAM, CD6 is recognized and playing TRACK 1! I went back to TAPE mode, reinserted the cassette (it worked normally) and this time CD6 comes up with no problems. So far I have been unable to duplicate the malfunction. Weird, eh?
