Not hard at all, once you have the ashtray* out, and push down on the two tabs. A search will yield excellent results.

*remove ashtray completely, including its carriage.

i have a sony cd player does it plugg in or does it have to be hard wired

Unless you get lucky, you have to cut off the plugs are wire the new radio in. This is a cake job I have done it a number of times.

You might want to check out the audio forum. If I remember right, the MB speakers are 2 ohm, and most non-MB systems are set up for 4 ohm speakers.

Also, starting in '88, they used two separate 50 watt amps, that you are going to want to bypass (ie: re-wire or jury rig current wiring).

Get rid of the crappy old system which sounds like crap. Buy a nice new head unit, nice speakers, an amp or two and wire it all up.

These sound systems were good in the 80's, now a Kia has a better one!

The later W126's at least have 6 speakers, the older ones have only 4. Its hard getting decent sound out of 4 speakers!
