Thanks for the tutorial, I'll be needing it soon.

And who repairs non-functioning antenna motors? I'm not willing to drop big cash just for antenna up and down action.

Your write-ups are very helpful. Have you ever considered on doing one for the rear axle boots while the rear end is still in the car? Ones on front end work would be great too!! But I guess we can't get too greedy... Again, your write-ups are very, very helpful. Thanks for providing them.

Good job, as usual!

I actually took mine apart and did it the hard way before I found out it could be done still mounted.

Russell you are an amaizing guy, but you are always a few weeks lat with the pictures. I did mine a month or so ago, and the plastic cable had snapped off in the housing. I had to take the pulley part out to get the old cable out, and then put it in like you, only without dodging the jackstands.

Thanks again for all you do, Chuck.

Yep the rear axle and boot R&R is coming up soon! It will be part of the project 240d series. I have a leaking boot and always get request for that pictorial.

Sweet! That would be incredibly useful! My car needs them pretty bad (but they're not split yet) and It'd be nice to be able to do it without removing the whole axle....I would if I had to, but it'd be nice to avoid that.

*Waiting patiently for the pictorial!*

Well, I thought you had to disassemble the complete antenna to stick in a new mast... joke's on me. I'll have to pick up more broken ones I see.

Word to the Wise

I did my antenna mast today. The motor was making some sickly sounds, so I took it out and cleaned it . . . there was a ton of crud in there. I love these antennas though, it is great to be able to service an electrical part!

Anyway, I overtorqued the mast when I was finishing up and broke the threaded portion off. It is still working, but that was a $27 OOPs. You don't need much to hold those things in place.

BTW - anybody have a source for Hirschmann parts? Their website makes it look like they don't even make antennas anymore. I think I need to replace the main driving meachanism, the teeth didn't seem to have much bite and my antenna was binding up a bit.

Junkyard for sure. Seems like way too much trouble to try and locate that part new. If you really, really need new parts beyond the drive belt, you're best bet is a whole new antenna assembly.

I just gave you a link.....I know that they have the drive belt, the gromet, and the mast, and whole antennas.....but they may have your gear as well, try phoning them.....

FWIW......I purchased both my new antenna mast and an antenna gromet from Phil.....if you were to phone Phil he may have the gear as well....

Now the reason that I returned to this thread......I received, and installed my antenna this afternoon......installation took less than 5 min.....I put ignition in accessory position.....turned on radio.....loostened the mast nut....ran the antenna out with the antenna rocker switch.....just bumping it until it quit moving........took out the old antenna mast.....put in the new antenna mast, paying attention to the direction that the gear teeth faced on the old one.......pushed the plastic track down until it just stopped.....reached into car and turned off the ignition, thus shutting down radio.....and was right there to guide the new antenna mast track back in....screwed the nut down finger tight.....turned the ignition back to accessory......radio powers up, antenna comes back to it's "radio on position",........then ran it up with the antanna rocker switcch, to test and observe that it goes to it's full extended position (I saw a thread here awhile back regarding this).......all is fine, good repair/replacement.....turn off radio......shut off key......and walked in house to computer, logged on, and typed this.......took me longer to type this than it did to replace the antenna mast.....
