Becker Europa Shortwave
Would anyone know how common it was to have a 115 equiped with a becker shortwaive radio? Was this strictly a European thing or was it an option for the North American cars as well? Car is a 74 240D
Thanks. Eric |

I think it is fairly rare. I remember a bunch of us drooling over one on ebay a few months back. Not sure about the Euro vs US though.

It wasn't rare but very common. Back then we Germans didn't care too much about great sound in our cars but more about the news. Almost like here where you switch to AM for the news.
Standard equipment for early W123s and late W115s was the Becker "Europa" with "pinstripe" design, later with "washing machine knob" design matching the heater knobs in W123s. It was equipped with UKW (Ultrakurzwelle = FM: 88 - 103 MHz), KW (Kurzwelle = shortwave: 5,900 kHz - 6,300 kHz), MW (Mittelwelle = 'middlewave'(?), AM: 600 kHz - 1,500 kHz), and LW (Langwelle = longwave: 150 kHz - 290 kHz), sound was terrible and mono, even on FM. BTW: I have one original german "washing machine knob" design 'Europa' and one 'Avus' (only UKW and MW, but cassette player and 'semi' stereo sound) to give away for a donation of a six pack of Samuel Adams... PM me.
