Speaker and Radio Questions, 560SEL

My 560 has only one good speaker, the left rear. How hard is it to replace the other 3, and do I have to use MB speakers, or can I use an aftermarket setup (I do insist that it look stock, under the grilles). Also, the car has a sony head unit that is going on its way out. Should I go back to a becker, or use what is called an Audio 10 (What is an Audio 10, anyway?)
Thanks, and God Bless,
Dave.

Most sites such as Circuit City and others have a configuration manager that will tell you what will fit or not. I've had mine replaced at CC using the utility and they work fine and look stock. As far as the head unit, that's up to you.

Thumbs up

Dave -

Since you have the early setup, it's not too difficult to replace all.

Rears are about 6.5" (metric size), but the 6.5 fit fine with a bit of tweaking. The fronts will accept a 4" or a 4x6M. The 4x6M will output a bit more midbass, this is good if you choose not to run a small subwoofer.

I wouldn't go back to Becker unless you're trying to sell the car for "originality" The 754 that was stock is lackluster at best.

I've always had good luck with Alpine units and Pioneer Premier. Go to a nice shop and check them all out. Few things you'd want:

crossovers
three preouts
CD
and a display you like

I WOULD recommend a small four channel amplifier to drive the speakers. The sound quality and output is FAR and ABOVE anything a headunit can do. This isn't for building a huge "booming" setup, just for great clarity.

If you want to add a small subwoofer, which I recommend 100%, you can really help low end sounds. Snare drums, base drums, etc. This makes such a huge difference. A single 10" is more than adequate. If you choose this route, you can run a five channel amplifier. 40x4 + 200x1 would work well.

you will find it difficult to look for the front dash speakers, they are not the regular ones you find in the after market, its 3 inch X 5 inch. and the rear are 5 inch round sspeakers with a plastic frame to make the speaker face forward. you can actually have the speakers refurbish and sound and you can actually add after market speakers but you would have to improvise to fit it on the front dash as well as the rear.
