Crakling sound, Help much appreciated !!!

I've been looking through your forums and found a few things that may be the cause of this. But I'd like to give out the exact problem and car model so that I can be sure of the problem before I proceed to trying to fix it lol

It's a 2002 C230 with the Boss sound system. On our way back from a road trip, the Driver side speaker started acting up, there's a type of crackling sound coming from that area, EVEN when the radio is turned off. I think I may of faintly heard it coming from the Sub at some point also.

This sound is present about 80% of the time, sometimes loud, sometimes not... but always annoying lol

I'd appreciate any input guys !! I know I'm new to the forums, but help a newbie out

Thanks,
Jo

Sound Problems

Hi JoC230,
Your problem is most likely the amplifier located in the trunk area. We service these amplifiers that most of the time get liquid damage. Let me know if you would like my help.

Thanks for the reply Cleeve, I'm assuming to service this amp would require me bringing the car to the dealership or audioshop ? I'm fairly handy when it comes to these things, if you don't mind giving me a quick run through of what is required, maybe this is something I can tackle myself ?

Thanks again,

Jo

Amplifier Problem

Hi JoC230,
The amplifier should have 4 nuts to hold it in place. If you or someone can remove it you can then send it to me to see about servicing it for you. Let me know.

Alright, thanks Cleeve I appreciate the offer, unfortunatly California is a little far to ship I'd be way too long without music and I'd have to listen to the wife talk instead...

I'll take it apart and see if I can't see something obvious that may be wrong with it. If not then I'll just drop it off at a audio shop near here ( Wich is Ottawa, Ontario btw )

Thanks again,
Jo
