Stock speaker specs in W123?

Does anyone know the stock front speaker specs for an '82 300CD? I'm upgrading to a cd/mp3 and would like to know the physical size the new front speakers should be to fit without any cutting.

i'm replacing the front too. the problem i'm finding is the grill clearance is only .40" from the dash bracket. anyone know of a high end speaker that will fit without any modification to the grill or dash?

in a coupe like the 300CD, 4" at the fronts will do fine, and 6x9s at the rear will fit without cutting any metal

Although for my front speakers, the tweeter hit the grill so i modified a little.

Right hand drive, with tach red line at 6500, CE? My '84 CD does not have any red line, yet MB sez, 5500 max rpm. Nice job on grille.

Pioneer 4" in the front,
Pioneer 5.25" in the rear

Sounds great, and everything slipped in, the rears were tight but no were mods needed.

Speaking of rear speakers... that's a mouthful... anyway my rear tray is warped. Has anyone found a nice looking replacement for cheap? If not has anyone made a nice looking replacement and how?

Adam,

Can you post the model numbers and where you bought them?

Thanks,

Clay

Also interested in model #'s for pioneer speak's.

Say how do you get those front grilles off, just a screw or two at the top of the dash (in the grille)?

thanks,

Chuck

Pioneer TS-G's are very affordable and fit well. and to remove it you just remove the screw and slide the grille out from under the pillar, moving it towards the ceter of the dash and then rearward.

I don't believe the same model is available. It has been superceeded by the Pioneer TS-G1341R and TS-G1041R. They are virtually identical to the ones I bought at Best Buy 2 years ago.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/album/compare/0,,2076_310069908,00.html

I have been extremely happy with them under all the factory grills, and upgrading my factory Becker 612 to a Becker 780 (direct plug in). The rear shelf needed to be sanded back by about 1mm to fit the 5.25" (stock is 5" and an unavailable size)

I wonder if instead of getting the 5.25" speakers, if I tracked down genuine 5-inch speakers like these if I would get a better fit. Better fit can often mean better sound as I believe the woofers work on the principle of some back pressure.

Thanks,

Chuck
