BEYMA car speakers anyone?

I am shopping for 4 new speakers to install in my soon to arrive 82 300CD.

I was going to get 4 MB Quarts like are in the 300D, but what I wanted was out of stock.
The kid recommended a newer speaker called BEYMAs from Spain.

Is anyone at all familiar with these...???

Thanks,

AA

i do hope your going to buy an amplifer to power those speakers and not try to run them off the headunit.

the setup looks good. i cant speak for Beyma's car speakers but their loudspeakers are NICE. expensive too but they sound very good

I have both Beyma (spain) and 18 Sound (italy) speakers and they both are good brands...

I have Boston Acoustics and JL Audio in my 190E...im quite pleased with the quality and overall sound stage

I have Polks alll around in my 300SD...sometimes i put the Infinity subs in the trunk and it blends together to make a very nice balance sound and if needed a very bassy sound too

Yeah I was thinking of powering w/o an extra amp;

but I really have to see what kind of shape my new 82 CD is in before I decide how much I am going to put into her. ( I haven't seen the car yet. The nicer she is the better she gets.)

In my '85 D I have had 4 MB QUARTS in the front 4" & rear 5.25" and the sound is extremely nice.

I am not into those thunder bass units that rock the car next to you , but I do crank up pretty good and if the BEYMAs are better than the MB Quarts, I would be way pleased............

Dunno if they make anything that would fit, but Dynaudio makes GREAT drivers, too. $pendy, though. I have heard good things about Beyma, to answer your question. No personal experience, however.

I don't get the advantage of installing an extra amp.

I have always had 4 decent speakers & a standard head unit/ radiio/ cd player.

I can crank up the volume as high as I need to; and it is fine.

And I have spent many years with my elbows on the stage of various loud rock shows.....so it must be louder than I even know....

i have a friend who installs home audio. he was installing an amp for his front speakers and i asked why. He said that the more power you can deliver to them the more efficent they will work and better sound will come out of them (i.e. less distortion).

He also said that the damaging sounds from loud music come from the distortion.

i would imagine there is a point when too much power is put into them and the blow. i ahve never seen that happen though

I have a feeling that people who sell & in alot of cases install audio eq. are really just regurgitating what is told to them by sales reps for companies that make audio equiptment. Just the same way doctors pedal drugs for pharmaceutical companies......

I have a 4 channel amplifier in my car for one good reason.

Its not about damaging sounds coming from the speakers, its actually because the internal amplifier cannot reproduce the frequencies that an external amplifier can. The internal amplifier cannot make low frequencies, and it cannot make those high frequencies. While you do get good sound from the headunits amp, you dont get that last little extra.

However, sound is totally subjective. A system that sounds good to one ear can be garbage to someone elses ear. For example, I like crisp highs, and to some the highs that I like are a bit too harsh. Same thing with lows. I like deep lows to accompany the crisp highs, but some think the amount of bass that I have is a bit overwhelming....

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." This applies to sound too!

What headunit do you have in your car? How many outputs does it have? A 4 channel is nice, as it saves space, but its possible to run 2 2 channel amps. Are you for sure going to get those beyma speakers?

get a 4 channel because you have 4 channels...front l/r and rear l/r

and yes the reason for doing an "external" amp is because they are much more efficient at amplifying the sound than the head unit's internal amp. typical head units say 50x4 or 40x4 or something along those lines however they output 17-22 watts RMS. Where as "external" amps actually put out 50watts rms per channel. Also, "external" amps have a lower overall THD (total harmonic distortion) than "internal" amps. There is a huge sound quality difference between internal and external. I suggest external especially with those Beyma speakers. Beyma is high quality speakers and not powering them properly..is like owning your Mercedes and buying crappy fuel for the motor.

The amp in my car ismore powerful than the speakers can handle, as you are less likely to clip. I have the gain on my amp turned up about 3 quarters of the way, and they sound almost perfect.

Although, one speaker finally bit the dust. Makes all sorts of weird noises now.

Did you decide on an amp?
