Best Buy installed a new JVC head unit in my 560SEC. However, when I turn off the ignition, the music keeps on playing, and I have to turn it off manually. What did they do wrong, and how can I fix it?

There are two power feeds available to the stereo, one is always live, the other is live in the accessory and on key positions. You'll have to connect the main power wire of the stereo to the accessory power wire.
Does the stereo memory work? Does the clock keep time if there is a clock? If not, then the stereo was wired wrong in this regard as well. Regards, Sixto 91 300SE |

The radio needs a permanent power input (memory) and a switched (by ignition lock) power input (auto on/off). You have a permanent powered wire connected to the switched power input...

I don't know if your model works the same as mine, but I had a similar problem when I had an Alpine Head unit, CD changer and DVD player installed in my 93' 300SL. The old radio would play in the car without the key in the ignition, so the new system did the same thing. This was a problem because the DVD and CD player kept drawing power.
The fix was to connect the power supplied to the head unit onto another circuit. |

Thanks guys.
Just like AJG382 said, the old radio would play in the car without the key in the ignition. When you turned the ignition off, the radio would turn off. But you could press the power button, and it would come back on without the key in the ignition. So is there an accessory wire in my car, or do I have to somehow connect the wire to another circuit? The clock works, and it doesn't lose memorized stations.

You can turn on the factory stereo the key out but it will only play for an hour or half an hour or something like that.
There is an accessory wire you can use. I'll check my manual for the color. My guess is that both your power input wires connect to the always live wire. The jokers must have noticed that you can turn on the factory stereo with the key out so they wired it that way. Maybe they also wired in a time limit Regards, Sixto 91 300SE |

86 560SEC...the switched power probably has a black wire with yellow line and green dots...The wire is already there behind the radio and was connected to your former radio (otherwise the radio wouldn't turn off with the turned off ignition). The feature that you can listen to the radio without the key in the ignition is built in the radio itself (nice detail by Mercedes/Becker).
