w124 door speakers

i have obtained a set of in door speakers that were in the later model w124's.

If i install them and get grilles, what do you run the wire to?

These would go in the 1989 CE

I take it your 300CE did not come with factory door speakers?

CE is a 1989... i think the doors speakers started in 1990. I have the stock radio... i could switch it out with another, but i kind of like the stock look.

My suggestion would be to get a better h/u and better rear shelf speakers.

I think that the door speakers in the 1990 and later 300CEs may be some sort of subwoofers.

With a better h/u and better rear shelf speakers you would get better sound quality.

My stereo guy put in an Alpine 9857 h/u and upgraded the rear speakers. The 9857 is pretty good because you can add modules as you like, like XM or Sirius radio, iPod, even Bluetooth phone connection. It is all built in, you just add the right module/connection.

To be honest, I can't even hear my door speakers.

If you start cutting into the door to install speakers, you are already modifying the "stock" look of the car.

Thumbs up

Not worth you're time, they're only midbass drivers and aimed at your elbows. Since low frequency sounds aren't directional that's why they are there... I'd only run a set of door drivers bandpassed from 50Hz to 250Hz for strong midbass there.

Anyway, skip the idea and get better dash and rear drivers.

My '95 e320 has the front door speakers. I was told the speakers in this configuration are 1 ohm units that are matched to the amplifiers in the car. If yours are 1 ohm units then be careful that the radio/amp can handle this low an impedance speaker or you might short out your radio/amp.
