The stock original Becker stereo in my 1991 420SEL (W126) recently suffered a burned out light bulb. I wouldn't normally mind but just moved to rural area and as I leave the house at 5am and do not return home until 7pm, I am always driving in the dark and can't read some of the preset buttons and/or stumble to find the volume control switch.

I have two questions?

1) Can the owner replace the burned out bulb once the head unit is removed? Easy or extremely difficult? Or is this something best left to the professionals or Becker?

2) How do you remove the radio from this car. Have not yet tried as I do not want to scratch/destroy the wood paneling on the dash?

Would greatly appreciate advise on these two questions! Thanks

Pull out your ashtray and remove the tray, you will find 2 screws in the bottom area, unscrew them and the ashtray frame will then come out. Now you can put your hand in the hole and push the radio out from the rear. Be aware that there are two clips that are holding the radio. Pull them down as they enter the bottom, front of the radio. If you don't see how to replace the bulbs, at least now it will be a "walk in" to a technician and therefore cheaper and faster than having him pull the radio.

I changed the bulbs in my Becker. I do not recall it being too difficult... was de"lighted" with the results!

Smiles.

bulb replacement

I understand this thread is really old but I was wondering if anyone had any part numbers to these bulbs or if they were all standard. Mine is from a w124 1992 300te 4matic Radio 1432. I did some becker research (haven't called them yet) but not coming up with a lot. Any information would be appreciated.

Does anyone know a source

where to get replacement bulbs for the Becker Grand Prix 1432 ? I e-mailed Ed at Becker and he says that no more bulbs. Unit has to be sent in and it'll cost $90 plus shipping. Are these bulbs really this illusive ? Someone must know a way out.

Here is a great source of "strange" bulbs. Obviously, you will have to dismantle your radio and check the number on the bad bulb, but you'll have to do that anyway.
Good luck!

Thanks, Ron. I will

give them a call today. I took the bulbs out after reading your reply but can't see any numbers printed on them. Maybe because they are so tiny and that would also explain why so many people are asking for the bulb number. If I have success today with the supplier you suggested I will post the numbers for others. Thanks again !
