No carphone for me
Okay dokay. I'm prolly late to the party but thought I'd share my experience with y'all.
I just got a new-to-me '95 E420 with the built-in moto phone and that little star-trek looking dealy in between the visors. I also just happen to have a verizon account and an active telephone number thats currently not in use. I thought to myself, why not activate the car phone because its better to have it there than just sitting in the office getting dusty. I got the 8 digit ESN (C3xxxxxx) from the black box in the trunk and called verizon. Sadly, since the phone is not E911 compatible, it cannot be activated. simple as that. question is, should I rip the whole system out? Its useless now and forever because nobody will ever be able to activate it (E911 compliance was an FCC mandate starting in '05), so why not get back my armrest cubbie space back no? Reclaim the space, that's about all you can do. Obsolete is obsolete.
