My '92 400E has a bad rear speaker.
I am not an audiophile by any stretch of the imagination. I don't wish to replace the factory head unit, re-wire or re-install anything.
Part of the reason is that I wish to keep the car 110% stock, and the head unit is a part of the appearance I want. The other part of the reason is that I don't have a weekend to devote to the stereo at the moment.
With that in mind, I have seen lots of conflicting info about what speakers will or will not drop-in fit into the 1432 system.
Q:
What size speakers will fit the front dash? Can I walk into Best Buy or Circuit City, buy a pair, and install them at home in 20 minutes the way I did with my W123?
Q:
What size speakers will fit the rear deck? Ditto on the rest of the question...
Q:
In the event that I cannot find what I want at Best Buy or wherever, I am aware that Rainbow does make true drop-in replacement speakers. But I've heard conflicting info about where to find these speakers and about whether Rainbow is even still in business.
Anyone know specifics on this?
Appreciate the help of any audio experts here.
