89 300sel cd player wiring question

I installed a cd player in my dads 89 300sel (pioneer 4800mp) and everything sounds fine, but there's one problem-The dash lights don't come on, there is one orange wire that didn't match up to any wires on the back of the pioneer labeled "illum" but I don't know what it should connect to. Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance

Three things possible come to mind. Maybe you blew a fuse. I'm not at my car right now so not sure of the fuse # that controls the dash lights.

Somehow the dimmer switch got turned down to "off". Not likely though.

Or pull the instrument cluster out and check that all the connectors are connected.

all fuses are fine, dimmer switch is good, not sure on the connectors but the lights worked fine before I installed the deck. Are you supposed to leave the illum wire unattached??
