Has anyone wired a Garmin GPS unit directly to the 12v DC? The Garmin units will power on when the car starts and power off when the car is turned off but I couldnt handle the power cord hanging down the front of the dash. I have ordered a Garmin C330 and would like to mount it on the Dash of my CLK430. Thanks!

Get the custom "hard-wire" kit from Garmin it will walk you through a custom installation. Ugly side they are about $70

I just did my Garmin Nuvi 660. I too didn't like the hanging wires all around. But instead of hard wiring the unit, and because my power plug is also an FM receiver for live traffic updates, I did something a little different:

I purchased an aux 12v power port and mounted it under the dash - hidden away. I wanted always-on power so I jumped into the radio feed. You can just find a switched power line if you'd prefer that.

I then ran the power cord behind trim panels all the way up the driver's side door and left just enough cord exposed to plug into the Nuvi which is suction-cup mounded in the lower left corner of the window.

It turned out pretty slick.

I have created custom Splash Screens that can be used with the Garmin Devices with "Mercedes-Benz" and the three pointed star as well as AMG logo to display when the unit is turned on instead of the Garmin logo screen. LMK if anyone would like them. They can be sent to the Garmin Devices using the xImage software from Garmin's website.
