Becker 1480 Code Assistance
Hey everyone..
A friend of mine just bought a 300SE and the radio says CODE. We searched the car for the code card that came with the radio however its not there. The radio's serial number is 1480KH0X9537729. I found a few program that claim to generate the code based on the serial code however I can only enter 4 digits for the serial code. I tried to put the numbers into the unit and it just went into WAIT mode. Correct me if i am wrong, the proceedure for code entry is: enter numbers via station selectors and then press scan or seek down to confirm? The FSM says push Search down but there is only a Scan or Seek button. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it greatly. Thanks Kris

The easiest way is simply to visit your local MB Dealer. Take the VIN and if possible, the radio. Using the MB Database, they can look up the radio code for the original radio in the car. It may be different than the unit currently installed. That's why it's sometimes a good idea to take the radio in.
Of the 3 times I have gone to the MB dealer (2 different dealers) over the years, with 3 different vehicles - all out of warranty - I only got charged once... a big, whopping $10... just ten bucks. Any MB Dealer will cheerfully retrieve the radio code from their database. In most cases, for free as long as they know you've purchased stuff (parts, accessories, anything, etc.) from them at some point. The entire process takes less than 5 minutes. Just show them *any* form of proof of ownership - insurance, title, registration... virtually anything that is legit. They will call up the radio code based on your VIN or radio serial number. As a helpful tip, the database page that the radio code is located actually contains a ton of useful historical information if your vehicle was purchased through a 3rd party. Ask them to print it out for you while on the screen.
