Alright, I love my car more then anything. The problem is the audio. I had the 10 Disc player option when I bought the car. When I got into a car accident a few years ago, the cd player was ruined and Mercedes installed a 6 disc player. This was about two and a half years ago. Now, the 6 disc doesn't work, my tape works and so does the radio. I went to Mercedes Dealer and informed them. They said the cd player had just died and there was nothing they could do to fix it. The only option was to replace it with another 6 disc player. They said it will cost 650 dollars. I asked why I just couldn't buy a cd player from Best Buy or a local audio dealer and have it installed. The dealer said it's impossible due to the different cables Mercedes uses, I figure it's BS. So my question is, can't I just buy a Nakamichi or Alphine cd changer and have it installed in the car by a qualified tech? Also, if I did do this, would I have to get a new audio console installed in the dash board or could I use the one that still came with the car? I would appreciate comments from the board, thanks.

Vijay,

Last night (before I read your post), I was surfing the web and ran across a company that sells cable converters that will allow you to do exactly what you want and use the M-B head unit to control the changer. I don't recall the address but you shouldn't have much trouble finding it if you have any proficiency with search engines. I use Alta Vista.

I'll try to take another look myself and will post if I find it.

Vijay,

I should have looked before my last response...

The website is http://www.installer.com/adapt.html

If you buy the adapter, please post a follow-up regarding its ease of use, functionality, etc. If it works well I might switch from my RF adapted CD Changer (another option for you) to the head-unit integrated set-up.

Thank you.

Try this

I installed an aftermarket Alpine 6 disc changer ($250 anywhere) in my E420 and an adapter (around $30) to work with my factory radio.

try this site for the adaptor autotoys.com
