Just thought you guys may want to see my approach to Hi-Fi sound in my 87 300e.
I take delivery of the car at the end of July.
Compenents I have aquired so far are.

Alpine 7844 cd player

Front speakers are Image Dymanics CD-1E v.2 compression horns with CS1.X crossover.
They will be installed under the dash.
Matched with a pair of Image 6.5" mid basses/

Rear speakers are kind of undecided, this is the only pieces I do not currently have.
Probably
Image 5.25" comp set in the factory locals.

Subs-(2) Image Dynamics IDQ 12" DVC, mono 4ohm. load.

Amps-
Mcintosh 431 4x100 to the fronts and rears
Mcintosh 427 1x300 to the subs

Crossedover by headunit.
Tiff wiring products, and Zero Noise RCAs.

Man! I can't wait to start the install.
Since I will be doing it all from scratch I will take pics and post them as my progress comes along.

I'd like to hear from others with detailed systems in simliar cars too.
And also like to hear about what speakers have been used for rear fill.

Thanks and looking forward to posting more and sharing my knowledge as well as learning from others.

Bryan Z.

Infinity Kappa speakers work well when placed on the rear deck. The rotable tweeter helps to focus the sound image properly. So far, I'm pretty pleased with the current setup. The left rear tweeter is aimed at the right front passenger and the right rear tweeter is aimed at the left front passenger. When I have more time, I will try a few different setups and post the results.

Speedy,

Nice choice on amps. Will the 300 watt amp put out 600 watts at 2 ohms? If not, you may be underpowering two IDQs.

You may opt for no rear speakers since they will only interfere with your front sound stage.

Also, the newer IDQ v.2 are supposed to be better than previous models. You may want to check it out.

Here is my install:

thanks Mattk

Hey Mattk,
I post as OnTheGreen at Sd forum, over 300 posts.
I have a Orion XTR 800, thats 1x800 if the Mac amp is not enough on the subs, they are not he new ones too.

I was thinking having no rear fill as well.
I have not had a rear fill in my last few cars/trucks.

I think I'll see how the horns sound and go from there.

Nice install by the way, very clean.
I had looked at your car before doing a search for MB installs.
Where did you find a solid ground, seat bolts?

I am sure we'll be talking soon.
Bryan

Are those IDQ subwoofers dual 4 ohm voice coils? Hmm, if they're wired in parallel then your ohm load goes down to 1 ohm. Perfect!

That would work.

Mine is a dual 2 ohm. Right now it is wired for 4 ohms mono but can be wired for 1 ohm mono. If I add another sub, I would buy another dual 2 ohm mono and wire it for 2 ohms dual mono and supply it with 600-700 w RMS.

Subs

The IDQ's are the DVC's

I picked up an modified Orion 250sx. It is powdercoated white and has a 225HCCA board inside.
It will push 400 mono at 1ohm.

The XTR800 may be a little too much for the subs, I'll do a comparison between the Macintosh, the XTR and the SX and see which sounds the best.
I'll keep this post or another updated.

OffTopic, my clear turnsignals and Neuspeed springs came today!!!
Stoked!

Bryan
