I have the oddest problem with my radio. At random the radio will suddenly drop down in volume, so low that you can barely hear it even if you crank the volume. It is very odd, and at first came if I took a corner too fast. But lately it randomly shuts off and on like this even if Im just sitting at a stand still.

Im guessing pre-amp or amp (it is 100% factory). What do you guys think? How can I test these in the factory system?

Thanks much.

Reset the radio by;
Turning ignition off.
Remove the power plug from the radio for 5 minutes.
Make sure that the faceplate is seated right.
Reconnect the power plug.
Turn ignition and radio on and see if the problem is still there.
If it is, send the radio for service.

hmm

OK after a couple of day of this intermittent stuff, now the radio does it 100% of the time. The radio display lights up fine, but very very little sound comes out of the speakers. I have to turn it up all the way to get a tiny bit of sound.

Plus Im afraid to reset it, in case it has an anti-theft code.

Sounds as if some component may be loose, going bad or a bad solder joint. Suggest that you have a pro take a look. By the way, how do you transform an '87 300E into a '00 E430? 8- ) The new car sounds like fun.

Good luck,

heh

I was thinking of purchasing a E420 back then. Now I am veering towards the CLK, but we will see.

Actually I found the problem. Water got to the factory amp and shorted it out, sigh. Im going Monday to purchase an aftermarket one.

Thanx
