I just recently installed a new stereo/speakers in my Benz but due to the rear speaker size, I don't have much bass capabilities. I'm considering putting a sub in the trunk. I'd be interested to hear any stories or suggestions any of you might have. I have heard that the trunks are airtight, but I would probably just vent the deck (first aid kit) area if that was the case. Thanks as always for the feedback!

Gotta do some searching, my friend...I started a thread that I think includes everything you'd ever reasonably need to know about a W124 sedan and a trunk sub. It's called "500E Stereo Upgrade". I believe it's been viewed by others a few times

It all depends on how much bass you want and how much trunk space you want to use.

I have a sealed enclosure with a single 10" 8 ohm woofer, yes 8 ohm. I prefer how it sounds with my music over a 4 ohm, plus I haven't been able to blow the woofer in the last 6 years. Right now it has a 600W amp on it bridged mono, and it hits hard.

To get the bass inside the car, I ported it into the cabin through the first aid kit box. It has a4 inch port going from the box through the deck. This effectively puts all the bass in the car, without it rumbling in the trunk.

Some fine tuning with an EQ of course would make it sound better, and some dynamat to quiet down the interior would be a huge plus, but it sounds great now.

Do as michael said though, and search for the information, it has been discussed quite a lot. And his install is definately a good one to base yours on.
