What radar detector is my car?
I am not sure this is the right place for the post, but my 1992 400e has a built in radar detector, that is really integrated into the dash. I would like to know what it is, who made it, etc, so I could know who made it.
It has a metal knob (volume) and a switch (seems to alter sensitivity, i guess city and highway or something like that) mounted into the plastic strip to the right of the light switch. Then, integrated into the instrument cluster, where the rest of the warning lights are (brake, engine, etc), on the left, there are a series of rectangular LEDs, which light up when something is detected. It also makes a diverse set of chirps, buzzes, etc, the meaning of which I would like figure out. Any clue what detector this is and who made it? Thanks

Your description tells me very little - you'll have to dig deeper to find the "box" and see what's written on it.

Go to k40.com. Maybe one of those. Have one on my 210. Nice.

Sounds like an old unit especially with a metal knob.
I don't know of anyone having anything now other than plastic knobs. K-40 units have a metal stem covered with a rotating on/off knob and an outter plastic knob for city/highway settings. I would upgrade to some nice passport laser diffuser protection now days as alot of departments are using laser instead of radar. Don't get a laser detector though as all they do is tell you you're getting a ticket without actually diffusing the laser. The windshield mounted radar units are okay, but those windshield mounted laser units are detectors only. You need to get the kit that has the two separate laser units which mount on the outside of the vehicle. I have a k-40 laser diffuser on my truck that works very well, but the passport units are the cats meow. |
