Speaker options for 123 wagon
I am thinking about getting new speakers for my 300TD and would like to maybe put a subwoofer somewhere in the back. Any suggestions on where to put one and which one might be best?
I don't want to rattle the windows, just looking for a little broader range.

I wonder too...
I just bought an 81 300TD and am desperate to upgrade the sound. Can I ask if you replaced the dashboard speakers and the rear mounted speakers in yours and if so with what size/type of speakers....what is your head unit? Are you using the original balance system (on the center console) or did you re-run wires?? I have a box style sub from my old volvo wagon but i too want something less obtrusive for "Ben".
Thanks, Rob |

I haven't even looked to see what I have yet, Rob. I will definitely replace the dash speakers. I wondered if there were any rear speakers. Haven't checked that yet either. I don't remember seeing a name on the after market stereo. So far it's been dark when I got home every night since I brought the car home.

I'm thinking of putting some Dyna-mat in the doors and elsewhere, too. There's a lot of wind noise in the car. Someone mentioned door seals being deteriorated and causing a lot of noise, too.
The stereo is an old Pioneer.

I did replace the factory speakers on my 300TD.
Factory speakers are 3-1/2" front (dash) and rear (cargo ceiling area). Although, you may fit most 4" speakers. Most 4" speakers will require to trim two of the four screw holders around them. I bought two sets of Boston Accoustics 4" with separate tweeters. Mounted the 4" speakers on the factory holes trimming the frames and then mounted the tweeters on top of the original grilles with the provided housings. Then added a Boston Accoustics 10" subwoofer with a custom made enclosured fitted on the hole of the spare tire and mounted the corresponding amplifier where the first aid was. The system sounded superb!

That sounds like exactly the sort of thing I had in mind. Thanks!
What head unit do you have in there?
