Reset tool for late 80's radios

The factory Becker radio in my '88 560SL requires a special tool to reset the radio when power is disconnected. I assume other models of that era have the same issue. It's apparently a simple 30 second job and my dealer doesn't charge me for it, but it's a PIA to drive an hour to the dealer to get that done even if it is free. A Google search didn't bring up anything useful. Does anyone have a picture or a source for this "tool?" Can one be made easily?

Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, you need the four digit radio code unique to your radio, and the dealer can provide this using your VIN number. At least that's how it works on my '90 420SEL, and my dealer gave it to me after I proved the car was mine. The service writer acted like I had just pulled up in the Beverly Hillbillies truck and couldn't get rid of me fast enough.

Anytime power is cut to the radio it will need the code to work again. Sometimes the radio code is written somehwere on the owners manual by a previous owner/service facility.

Nope, there is no code for these model radios AFAIK. The dealer tells me that it must come into the dealership and the special tool must be used.

If it was me, I would call Scott at Continental Imports, they are a authorized Becker repair shop, as well as being a well respected MB indy repair shop. I think they do work for some dealers, if that tell you anything.

Scott knows these radios inside and out, and is a very honest gentleman.

Thumbs up

1432s should be the first CODE units. Rest have to be reset with the dealer tool.
