1988 300TE -- Amp+Sub finished. Pics

Hi everybody,

After some time figuring out the best way I could add some bass to my system I finally got it done!

I was looking for a little bass to add to the system but nothing crazy because I want to keep my hearing intact

I ended up going cheapo and getting a 580w Dual Amplifier (XIA3145) and 2x 10" Dual Subs for like $85 total. Pretty good deal.

I then proceeded to build my own box to fit in the rear end of my 300TE. I wanted it to be as stealthy as possible, but not permanent and easy to remove.

I glued the box with wood glue and liquid nails then filled the inside with a layer of Polyfill against the back wall.

This is how it ended up

And in place:

^ Very stealthy when the seat is up!

I have the amp hidden under the rear drivers side seat too.

Still things to do:
  • Find best material to cover the box

Success! It sounds AWESOME and the bass very tight and the car fills with bass very well.

Oh and here is a picture of my baby:

Enjoy!

Update: Just finished!

Enjoy!

Gotta let it finish drying over night before I crank it up.

more info about your stereo

Hi, that is a great subwoofer box- well done. I assume you have new headunit (not the becker), and that you ran new wires to all the speakers to avoid the factory fader and amp in the wheel well. What did you do? What speakers did you install? I'm getting ready to replace the factory system in my 300TE, and will learn from your experiences with that. Thanks, Dave

I was hoping you'd use the same color material as the interior but it's good work nonetheless.

I am using 4" JBL GTO427's all round, but they were a little too small (someone told me 4" was the right size) So I just made a bracket to make it fit in the hole. So I would assume the hole is for 5" speakers. You will have to measure it though.

The fader still works (I had the HU installed by bestbuy for free) but the headunit cannot fade itself using its settings.

My headunit is an Alpine CDA-9856

I routed the amp wires through the middle console, but I didn't want to tear up the carpet so I just run them along the ground. I really didn't want to ruin anything in the car as its in such great condition.

I couldn't seem to find anything that matched my carpet locally...and I didn't want to spend alot of money online for something that didn't match perfect. The black material I got for free. So in the future if I find some matching one I can easily redo it
