Using a Sony CD Player in Trunk w/ MB Unit

I just purchased a 2002 E320. It has an MB-installed factory radio deck unit that allows for a trunk-installed CD. I happen to have a Sony 6-disk CD player that I could use – if it's compatible with the MB radio deck.

Can another 'brand' CD player be used with MB stereo units? Or do I have to use a M-Benz CD unit with it?

I'm pretty sure the 2002 E-class has a similar setup to my 2000 C230 - the connection to the changer in the trunk is a fiber-optic line that is proprietary. There are a couple of different versions, I think mine is D2B, but there may be another version in your car.

You'll probably have to find a MB unit to work in your car, they are (really) expensive from the dealer but you can find them on auction sites for around $300-400.
